Happy Easter

Happy Easter Everyone!

What does Easter look like at your place?

We hope the Easter Bunny made a visit last night!

Good Friday Deluge

Here in Brisbane we had Thunder Storm on Good Friday.

The rain was coming in horizontally!!!

Brett was out mowing before it hit!

Coming in.....

Eeeeekkkk pouring down!

A usual sight..... the retaining wall waterfall!

Lets hope the BBQ doesn't float away!

Right side of the h0use - drain working over time!

Left side - nothing.....

We had a river running past our house on the street!

The water coming from behind and along our neighbours place - talking about running water!

Here is why we have a retaining waterfall.....

As our neighbours are away we were keeping an eye on the place....

Was surprised so see this!

The pit drain is block - Brett unblocked it but there is no suction happening - so that is what the water can't get away.

The water is coming from up the side of these other houses - those neighbours were also out and about as they are having flooding issues.

By the time we got back from next door our side of the house was clear of water - so at least our drainage is working.

The thing I am a bit worried about is that today (Easter Saturday) we are putting a shed in where the retaining wall waterfall is.....

Princess Lulu had a dental procedure yesterday.

On the way home.

Resting on my lap.

She is recovering well.

Seriously 6 Months!

Well today it’s been Six Months since we moved in!!!

Time has gone by so fast (in some ways) and in others it feels liked we have always lived here for years!

Thanks to everyone that has helped us out along the way.

We have a few more projects on this weekend – but we are getting closer to the finishing line every day!

Life in 90 sq ft Home

I saw this on the news this morning and thought WOW - she loves small spaces!

I think this place would drive me nuts! She is very clever with her use of space - check it out!

Is this America's smallest apartment? Woman describes life in 90 sq ft home!

Felice Cohen has squeezed her life into a 90 square ft flat even though it has no kitchen and a bed whose ceiling is 23 inches from her face.

The bathroom is so small that she has to sit sideways to go to the toilet and on her first night there she suffered a panic attack because it is so cramped.

Earth Hour

Tonight at 7.30pm (Brisbane Time) Brett and I will be taking part in Earth Hour!

We have participated most years – but this year it’s our first in our new home!
Getting out the candles!!!!

It’s not too late to join in – turn out the lights for an hour, have dinner or drinks by candle light!

About Earth Hour

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to take a stand against climate change.

Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries/territories participating.

Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, CN Tower in Toronto, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries/territories officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.

On Saturday 27 March, Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever. A record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.

Earth Hour 2011 will take place on Saturday 26 March at 8.30PM (local time). This Earth Hour we want you to go beyond the hour, so after the lights go back on think about what else you can do to make a difference. Together our actions add up.

RIP Liz

At around 4am this morning I woke to the news that Liz Taylor passed away.

While making dinner tonight I looked up and saw her on my Andy Warhol wall....

What a stunning lady!

I also noted that 5 of my Andy Warhol friends have passed :: total style icons - Liz, Maz, Jax, Di & Judz.

Just between you and me, I am not looking forward to the day Prince passes away - I imagine I will need to take bereavement leave!

Memories of Fay Tyrril

On Saturday morning (29 January) my Grandmother Fay Tyrril passed away peacefully.

On Thursday will be her funeral, which will be sad and not to mention I hate goodbyes...

As we are a "blended family" its nice to be included in the service. I will be doing a reading that Fay's daughter has picked out.

That God’s love and strength may be strong in the hearts of the young people of our up-and-coming generation...............Lord hear us.

TYRRIL, Fay Virtue
(formerly Tierney) nee Wilson Passed away peacefully on 29th January, 2011, at St Andrews Nursing Home, Tallebudgera. Formerly of Zillmere and Kedron. Aged 84 Years. Beloved Wife of Frank Tyrril and Jack Tierney (both deceased). Much loved Mum of Chris, Carol, Jeff, Sue, Shane and Cherie. Loving Grandma to all her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. Loved Sister of Joan. Family and Friends are invited to attend a Service of Prayers for Fay, to be held at Infant Saviour Catholic Church, Park Avenue, Burleigh Heads, on Thursday, 3rd February, 2011, at 2 p.m.

The memories I will keep of my "Tyrril" Grandparents are (Grandpa passed away in 1997):

Eating boxes of Smarties sitting on the back stairs in Sydney Street.

Washing the Smarties down with a Orange Popper!

And watching Singing in The Rain - everytime we visited!

Grandma Fay always had the best painted toe nails as well - always coloured and shiny!

Its funny the things you remember - certain smells, tastes and sounds.

RIP Grandma xoxo

EBay Urn Bargain

I won these garden urns & pedestals off eBay a couple of weeks back for the bargain price if $80 (all up)

As you can see one of the urns had broken.

So I went to Bunnings asked about concrete glue, bid & won (I was the only bidder).

The owner paid over $400 4 years ago, so $80 was a massive bargain!

I think Brett wasn't so sure - but I knew we could do it!

We stuck it together with liquid nails "landscape".

The above pic shows the gap & the undercoat.

Brett filled it with no more gaps.

Sanded it back...

And painted it with this black hammer effect spray paint.

And presto.....

Look how good the garden now looks:

From This:

To This:

Pretty happy with the outcome and even happier with the price!

Sometimes vision is all you need!
