Mulching

The Developers of the estate have started on stage 2 and 3 and have heaps of mulch.

They gave us this mulch to use in the gardens (its nice when the developers of your estate are your neighbours and great people).

So here is Brett getting busy in the Mulch.

BBQ Structure

We found this entrance structure in a street near to us.

It will give you an idea of the shape that we are looking at building over the BBQ area pavers.




Not 100% sure what we will make this structure out of - but now we have an idea of what we are wanting to out over the area below.

A Contrast Garden

When Brett and I were at Bunnings recently, I saw a sign that read “add these plants to your garden for contrast”.

Funny things is – all the plants that were contrast plants are what makes up the our whole garden LOL

We don’t really have a lot of green we have a lot of pinks & purples.

Oh well there is nothing normal about our house so I guess the garden shouldn’t be any different.

Top Soiling

Our green grass has a tinge of brown as Brett filled in some of the diverts with top soil.

Looking a little murky at the moment, but I am told in 2 weeks it will be look fab!

Busy Weekend

It was a busy weekend with 4 more tonnes of soil to top up the garden beds.

That takes the grand total of hand moved landscaping materials to 42 tonnes (good work Brett)!




Before: you can see the bricks under the fence.




After: more soil bricks covered!




We also got some pink cordies.

We also have some more green plants coming too (today I think).




Here is the garden bed out the front a of couple months ago.




And now look at it. Starting to get bigger and should be a sea of pink and purple in no time!

Note the plant in the pot was left by one of neighbours - so nice!

EBay Urn Bargain

I won these garden urns & pedestals off eBay a couple of weeks back for the bargain price if $80 (all up)







As you can see one of the urns had broken.

So I went to Bunnings asked about concrete glue, bid & won (I was the only bidder).

The owner paid over $400 4 years ago, so $80 was a massive bargain!







I think Brett wasn't so sure - but I knew we could do it!







We stuck it together with liquid nails "landscape".

The above pic shows the gap & the undercoat.

Brett filled it with no more gaps.







Sanded it back...

And painted it with this black hammer effect spray paint.







And presto.....

What To Do With All The Sandbags?

Now that the #BNEFloods have subsided in Brisbane the next issue after cleaning up – is what to do with the all the sandbags (clean ones)?

The Brisbane City Council http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/ says you can take them back to depot’s or take them to the dump – but what a waste.

Today at work (getting the office back together after the flood) we all decided to take some sandbags home and use them on our lawns.

Clearly the sandbags can’t be water damaged – if the floods touched them (get rid of them – too much bacteria).

Brett used the sand today on the back lawn to level it out – looks pretty good…. and free (not to mention good recycling)!

Yuck Grubs

Brett noticed these little suckers in the backyard in a small area.

He rang up Jimboomba Turf as they give a 3 month guarantee against Lawn Grubs with Sir Walter Turf.

They were great came out the next day – the Green Keeper and Rep armed with their lawn grub spray they use which is worth approx. $600.00 (yes) for 500mls! It is their product that the developed. On closer look at the grubs they had tried to eat the turf but were very sick.

The turf dudes were happy about that as this spray stuff they have put a lot of time and money into research and development its working!

Brett said they gave the backyard a spray with their spray – which is good news (those grubs don’t have chance).

It is expected that the grubs have come from a neighbour as they are in a small section towards the back of the property.

Will have to inform those neighbours they have grubs and can they keep them to themselves LOL

The Big Wet

Well we never thought that we would have spent 3 hours digging trenches, diverting water, stacking bricks and shovelling soil on Christmas Day!

This footage is taken from next door – as you can see the water is coming into their backyard and pooling in their alfresco area and coming into our block as there isn’t soil against the retaining wall.

Brett dug a trench along the side to try to get the water out to the street instead of coming into our block.



Fun times water just racing in!



The developers had dug a trench on this other side of the house earlier in the week…




This footage (is me walking – sorry) is from next doors driveway and down the street and the water coming down our side yard and through our front yard!



This side yard wasn't finished with pebbles, but there was so much water coming in that it was like a whirl pool of water going down the drain!

Here is a screen shot from my iphone of the weather!

This big weed thing was clogging next doors drain from the street and thus backing the water up - so I pulled it out - and out gushed the water!

As you can see there is water coming from next door from under the wall & the other agg pipe was the extra one that Brett put in on our side. We are extending this pipe further towards the street (today - if the weather holds).

As you can see the left had side of the backyard is fine (no water)..... but......

The right hand side is full of water, the newly laid turf was floating on this side!

There are some places in Queensland that are in a lot worse shape than us – so we are very grateful that this is the extent of our issues.

Massive pancakes for breakfast!




The rain was endless!

We had a swimming pool! As we need to turf to bring the ground level up to right level for the drainage pipes!

There was also a waterfall coming in from next door via the retaining wall, this is due to the lacks of soil at the back of the retaining wall next door. So the water is hitting the drainage rock and seeping in. Once next door fill & level their backyard it should stop this issue....








Out the side there was a whirl pool as the water was going down the drain.


You can just see Brett's paving under the water!
