The Big Wet

Well we never thought that we would have spent 3 hours digging trenches, diverting water, stacking bricks and shovelling soil on Christmas Day!

This footage is taken from next door – as you can see the water is coming into their backyard and pooling in their alfresco area and coming into our block as there isn’t soil against the retaining wall.

Brett dug a trench along the side to try to get the water out to the street instead of coming into our block.

Fun times water just racing in!

The developers had dug a trench on this other side of the house earlier in the week…

This footage (is me walking – sorry) is from next doors driveway and down the street and the water coming down our side yard and through our front yard!

This side yard wasn't finished with pebbles, but there was so much water coming in that it was like a whirl pool of water going down the drain!

Here is a screen shot from my iphone of the weather!

This big weed thing was clogging next doors drain from the street and thus backing the water up - so I pulled it out - and out gushed the water!

As you can see there is water coming from next door from under the wall & the other agg pipe was the extra one that Brett put in on our side. We are extending this pipe further towards the street (today - if the weather holds).

As you can see the left had side of the backyard is fine (no water)..... but......

The right hand side is full of water, the newly laid turf was floating on this side!

There are some places in Queensland that are in a lot worse shape than us – so we are very grateful that this is the extent of our issues.

We are heading out to the block today and I will be able to wear my new hot pink and black gum boots yeeeeha

The Rain in Brizbain!

Well it had to happen sometime during our build – the dreaded rain has come to town right when we are at the bricking stage.

Spoke to SS today and the bricks should be finished this week (fingers crossed).

Render to start early to mid next week – that will be exciting!

Brett and I are meeting with the SS on Friday which will be good.

Precis: Showers increasing to rain

15 July 2010

Day 14: Hello Slabby!

Its official we love concrete!

As we have “E” class soil you can see our slab is thicker than usual!

I haven’t seen it in all of its grey glory; however I will go out and have a look on Saturday!

We have been informed that on Friday the frame work will start and take approx 1 week, followed by the guttering and fascia.

Seems like full steam ahead!

I am very happy to report that the forecast for Friday is:

Friday Fine Min 8 Max 20

10 July 2010

Day 9: Pipin’ Hot Pink

We have Pipes.... small, medium and large!

The plumbers must have known my fav colour was pink as they happily sprayed hot pink paint all over our site!

We seem to be on track which is great!

Not too happy about the dunny on it's side!

Our first flower!

It’s funny how when standing on the site things look small – I am freaking out saying “it’s not big enough”.... Brett reassures me that once the site starts to become 3 dimensional that it will look bigger.

I am not saying I want a Taj Mahal but I want and really need something bigger than we were in before – space really is a commodity, not to mention the fact that the Estate Covenant states the house has to be no smaller than 250 square metres (not including the Porch and Alfresco Area) ours is 273.8 in total so we are just over the requirements.
At the end of the day it keeps the estate at a standard which is good for re-sale although Brett and I both vow this is our “Death Nest” or the more polite “Forever House”..... I guess never say never!

Bring on SLAB DAY which is Wednesday (14 July 2010) – everyone fingers crossed for a dry day!

Forecast: Wednesday Mostly fine, chance shower. Min 13 Max 24

09 July 2010

Day 8: Drainage

Well today “should” be the day the drainage is installed!

I am really not well versed on what is actually involved in that but I am hoping that a “shower or 2” forecast will allow the drainage to be done today to keep us on track for Wednesday (Slab Day)!

Having a look at Wednesday’s forecast of “mostly fine, chance light rain” I am hoping will change to “Fab Day To Pour A Slab”!
